Recovery is about more than simply giving up your habit. To overcome addiction, you need to heal your body and mind so that you can move forward with a healthier lifestyle. The holistic approach to recovery focuses on making you healthy again while easing the anxiety and depression that can often accompany the process. If you are considering holistic treatment for drug, alcohol, or sex addiction counseling near Los Angeles , here is what you need to know.
Reasons for Holistic Recovery
Addiction is an all-encompassing disease that affects both your body and mind. Holistic recovery programs for substance abuse and sex
addiction recognize those impacts to help patients reclaim the strength they need to live a healthier lifestyle. Holistic recovery treatments focus on repairing damage to your body and overcoming emotional struggles that stand in the way of recovery. When your mind and body are both healthy and strong, it is easier to cope with the demands of addiction treatment as well as factors that can lead to relapse, such as cravings and stress.
Types of Holistic Treatments
Holistic addiction treatments include a wide range of natural remedies for both your body and mind. These therapies may include things like yoga, meditation, hypnosis, biofeedback, acupuncture, and nutritional counseling. Individual and group therapy may also play roles in your recovery plan. Many of the therapies used during your initial recovery period can be incorporated into your overall lifestyle after your treatment ends. For instance, continuing to practice yoga and sticking to a healthier way of eating can help support your long-term wellbeing in order to curb your temptations to relapse.
Signs You Should Consider Holistic Recovery
Nearly every person receiving treatment for an addiction can benefit from incorporating holistic therapies into his or her recovery. If physical and emotional health issues are significant complicating factors in your recovery, holistic therapies can be especially beneficial in boosting the effectiveness of your treatment.

There are some couples who spend every night together. They eat dinner together, sleep together, talk or text throughout the day, and generally are in touch 24/7. That’s all well and good, but sometimes there’s such a thing as too much together time. When we first start dating someone, it’s like magic. Uncovering someone else’s secrets is intoxicating. What do they smell like? What kind of underwear do they wear? What’s their favorite food and cocktail? What makes them tick? You see each other a few times a week and get giddy at the sight of a text with their name as the receiver. Flash forward 3 years and you get used to that new car smell. Relationships become so familiar that you don’t see all the little things that make your partner special. That’s why I am such a big believer in alone time; and friend time- apart from each other. Go to the movies alone, get drinks with your friends, take a trip somewhere…without your partner. It reinvigorates the relationship to not be attached at the hip. It gets you excited to see your love if you haven’t already heard about their day in 15 texts. In case you haven’t guessed I’m a car freak. So, here’s another car metaphor to describe a long-term relationship. If you have a gorgeous Porshe sitting in your garage and you drive it everyday, after awhile it won’t make your heart race anymore. But if you take it out for a long drive once a week, it’s more of an experience you look forward to. Everything gets old if you do it all the time (including sex). So if things are getting kind of old between you and your mate, try missing each other. It makes the time you do spend together that much more special.

Understanding Sex Addiction
Sex addiction is much like other types of addictions in that the addiction isn’t about sexual intercourse. Similarly, an eating disorder isn’t caused by food and a cocaine addiction isn’t caused by cocaine use. All addictions are a symptom of a problem. This problem could be different for every patient. Some may develop sex addictions because of a traumatic childhood, for instance. For others, sex addiction may have roots in anxiety, depression, mismanaged anger, and fear of intimacy.
Identifying Common Signs and Consequences
There are many possible indicators that someone is struggling with this type of addiction. They include excessive viewing of pornography, compulsive masturbation, cybersex, phone sex, and unsafe sexual activity. Sex addicts are more likely to have affairs, patronize strip clubs and adult bookstores, and have multiple anonymous partners. Sometimes, sex addicts must experience significant, adverse consequences of their behavior before they understand the need to change. These consequences might include job loss, divorce, and family estrangement.
Working Toward a Life in Recovery
Recovering from any sort of addiction is never easy. However, recovering sex addicts will find the support system they need at an addiction treatment center. Addicts may discover that a holistic approach to recovery can be very effective. This might include individual and group therapy, along with couple counseling and intensive workshops. Since sex addiction affects both partners in a relationship, it’s highly advisable for the non-addicted partner to actively participate in counseling.
